Structural Fabrication Owner Looking to Exit

STAGNANT OPERATION WAS LACKING PROCESSES AND SUPPORT TO GROW

In January 2018, Nix Industrial acquired a 40,000 square foot Structural & Miscellaneous Metal Fabrication Shop that began in 1998. The operation had many lean aspects to it due to the owners hard-working mentality and CNC Equipment. However, the operation’s growth remained stagnant following the economic recession in 2008. Turnover was high as minimal hiring and evaluation practices were observed. The owner agreed to stay on as a site manager to lead the division. Once Nix Industrial took over, trained, and implemented the various management essentials now offered through ProFab Alliance, the business began to flourish. The business has now grown 634% in 6 years.

Complimentary Start-Ups Prove To Be Profitable Additions

ADDITIONAL SERVICES ATTRACTS NEW CUSTOMERS AND RELATIONSHIPS

In 2013 and 2017, Nix Industrial created two complimentary startups, both in the coatings trades. The first focuses on shop coatings and finishings including media blasting, liquid coatings, and powder coating, while the second provides coatings services within the field including, media blasting, painting, roof coatings, tank linings, and plural component systems. Both of these startups support the fabrication and machining services, but also provide their services direct to customers. Even though, these were built from the ground up, they did not come without their challenges. Many of these challenges surrounded the hiring and retention of skilled trades employees. The competitive environment for these positions was historically based upon pay and employees often moved from company to company with very little tenure. Due to our hiring practices, environment of transparency, and the overall culture, we have successfully been able to reduce the turnover rate and increase the tenure of each employee.

Equipment Repair Shop Losing Traction

AGING OWNER AND DECLINING CULTURE RESULTED IN MINIMAL PROFITS

In 2015, Nix Industrial acquired an Equipment Business. Prior to the acquisition, the operation struggled due to cultural reasons and a lack of clear direction and focus. In 2018 through Strategic Planning and competitive analysis, Nix Industrial decided to divest from many of the main product lines & divert all energy to an in-demand service/core focus. The transition took several years, but due to a clear and transparent plan of action, the operation has significantly increased its bottom-line profitability while decreasing unprofitable top line revenue. The business has become a very reliable contributor.
